ALBANY CENTER GALLERY SPOTLIGHTS THE FUTURE OF LOCAL ART WITH HIGH SCHOOL REGIONAL

From March 26-April 27, 2013, Albany Center Gallery will host the 14th Annual High School Regional Juried Art Exhibition, featuring the work of more than 100 high school students from over 20 different school districts within the Capital Region.

“We’re thrilled to have the High School Regional at ACG for the first time,” Albany Center Gallery Executive Director Tony Iadicicco said. “We look forward to giving many young, talented artists their first opportunity for a juried exhibition and to encouraging them to grow, develop, and pursue exciting careers in the arts.”

The show will be juried by a panel of four leading artists and educators:

Ginger Ertz, an accomplished sculptor and K-12 Museum Educator at the Tang Museum and Art Gallery at Skidmore College

Amy Griffin, an art reviewer and feature writer for the Albany Times Union, who has taught at Purdue University, Sage College of Albany, University at Albany, and the College of Saint Rose

Susan Schmader, a visual arts teacher for 32 years, who was named the NYSATA Art Educator of the Year in 2001

Leigh Wen, an acclaimed full-time artist who has exhibited nationally and internationally since the early 1980s, including in the Small Works International in New York City

A reception will be held for schools, students, and families on March 27 from 5:00 to 9:00 p.m., with an awards presentation at 6:30 p.m. A total of five honors will be presented: four Juror’s Choice Awards for work in any medium as well as the Lory Tansky Award for a three-dimensional piece of work.
