Up Next at ACG, Japanese Influence: Layer and Line
Opening September 7th in accordance with First Friday, Japanese Influence: Layer and Line will be a show of paper-based works by artists who all take some kind of inspiration from Japanese works of art. Featured artists include Laura Cannamela, Russell Serrianne, and Ruby Silvious. Cannamela’s paper works are abstract but reminiscent of architectural forms, and are inspired by Japanese illustrations, specifically those from The Tale of Genji. Serriane creates his “tendrils” work by attaching vine tendrils to paper in a sort of drawing/sculpture hybrid, influenced by Japanese calligraphy. Ruby Silvious’s Japanese great-grandmother taught her the intricate folding techniques of origami that she uses to create her whimsical animals and bowls. This show is not to be missed, and will be up September 7 to October 6, 2012.
