Thank you so much to everyone who helped out with the Living with Art opening! It was a great night, topped off by a light show and rooftop dance party. We were pleased to collaborate with Parade of Homes, giving ACG members exposure in the process. We hope to continue to collaborate with local businesses, bringing art and culture to the Capital District. The artwork at 17 Chapel is still up, and can be viewed by appointment. The show “Surface and Light,” featuring the work of local artists Nat Friedman and Erik Laffer, will run from June 19-July 14, 2012. It is currently open to the public, and the opening reception will take place on July 6 from 5:00-9:00 p.m. Laffer’s paintings are from his cartography series, which he is best known for. They are abstract representations of life experiences, playing with texture, color, and symbols. The paintings complement Friedman’s sharp geometric sculptures, softening them out and expanding on their rusty brown color palette. This show should not be missed–make sure to come see it, and we hope to see you at the reception!
On Saturday June 9th, Albany Center Gallery participated in Art on Lark, a large street festival showcasing Albany’s arts district. We decided to sell artwork that had been donated to us throughout the years by numerous local artists. It was a great way to raise money and promote the gallery, as well as a great way for beginning art collectors to get some nice pieces. We were thrilled to participate in the spirited atmosphere of the day, and pleased for the opportunity to raise both funds and awareness.
ACG is thrilled to be named “Best Gallery” by the Times Union, especially on the landmark year of our 35th Anniversary. With the Capital District’s support, we hope to bring great art to the community for many more years to come!
