Tim Kane, a freelance writer for the Times Union recently interview Channing Lefebvre recently. The article was published this past Sunday. Read the article by clicking here.
On Tuesday January 27, the first grade class at Doane Stuart School will visit Albany Center Gallery at 10 a.m. to view the Then & Now exhibit featuring the work of Channing Lefebvre, Peter Leue and Terry Slade.
They will interact with a 16′ long sculpture created by Peter Leue who reconfigured an antiquated organ and attached twenty seats. “The seats are configured just like a keyboard on the piano or an organ in that there are black seats representing the sharps and flats and white seats representing the naturals,” said Leue. An organ grinder pumps air through the pipes and the “musicians” sit on the chairs to activate the music. The sculpture is entitled “Musical Chairs.” The students from the first grade class will also play instruments they built in art class earlier in the week. “I think it is important for the students to gain a deep appreciation for the arts in all forms, and for them to experience the joy of visual art and music combined; it is an experience that will last a lifetime.” Jason Martinez, Art Teacher Doane Stuart School.
The gallery was featured recently on News Channel 9 arts corner for the current exhibit Then & Now. Read the article, or better yet, click on the video to see us in the news!
There was a typo in the Times Union Preview Section, January 15, 2009 regarding the “Regional Redux” exhibit featuring Tom Chesnut, Taylor Gillis and Michael Marston. It said there will be an opening this Saturday here at Albany Center Gallery. Actually, the opening is not here, we still have our Then & Now exhibit up through February 7. However, there will be an opening at galariebmg in Woodstock, NY. Visit their website at www.galeriebmg.com for details.
