Albany Center Gallery presents "About Light" featuring photography
by Bill DeLanney and William Jaeger opening October 20 and running until
November 28. The opening reception will be held on November 6, 6 p.m. –
8 p.m., in conjunction with 1st Friday. The Brown Bag Lunch Discussion will
be held on Thursday November 12, Noon - 1 p.m. Albany Center Gallery is
located at 39 Columbia Street between N. Pearl and Broadway in downtown
Albany, NY.
Bill DeLanney resides in Voorheesville, NY and has exhibited in select exhibitions
including Perrella Gallery at Fulton-Montgomery Community College (Johnstown,
NY), Proctors Theater (Schenectady, NY), Cooperstown Art Association (Cooperstown,
NY), Photo Center Gallery (Troy, NY), Galerie BMG (Woodstock, NY), Photo
Media Center (Belmont, MA) The Main Street Gallery (Groton, NY), Exposed
Gallery of Art Photography (Delmar, NY) and Soho Photo Gallery (New York,
NY). His photographs have been published in Shots Magazine and Camera Arts
Magazine and his works have been commissioned by Aperitivo in Schenectady,
NY and SunMark Financial in Latham, NY. The photographs selected for this
exhibition where created using a pinhole camera illuminated by natural light.
The light is absorbed within the camera and fixed on film which is processed
in darkness. The scene is recreated on paper. Delanney states, " From
the light comes darkness and from the darkness comes light".
William Jaeger received his Masters of Fine Arts from The Rochester Institute
of Technology for Photography and he has had numerous solo exhibitions in
New York and California including Lulu Gallery (Albany, NY), Ten Broeck
Mansion (Albany, NY), Schenectady Museum (Schenectady, NY), Time and Space
Limited (Hudson, NY), Ulster County Community College (Stone Ridge, NY),
High Desert Center for Photography (Victorville, CA) Lowenherz Galler (New
York, NY), Art Center of the Capital Region (Troy, NY), and Greene County
Council on the Arts (Catskill, NY). He has also been selected to participate
at the John Davis Gallery (Hudson, NY), Robin Rice Gallery (New York, NY),
Russell Sage Gallery (Troy, NY) and Center for Photography at Woodstock
(Woodstock, NY). Jaeger is an instructor at The University at Albany and
Hudson Valley Community College and he is also an editor for Art New England,
lecturer for the Bethlehem Lecture Series, occasional photojournalist, most
recently for Gannett News Service, an art critic for the Albany Times Union
(1994-2001) and a freelance writer. Jaeger has received a Special Opportunities
Stipend from New York Foundation for the Arts and a New York State Council
on the Arts Unison Learning Center Exhibition Award.
Jaeger eloquently states,
"The act of seeing becomes the art of seeing not by making photographs,
but by paying attention.
What is shown is what was seen.
Location, time of day, events at play, all objects and people at the scene
at the time of the picture are incidental, or at least accidental. They
are not unimportant, but they were not the motivation for the exposure.
Nothing here was complicated in the making. I use old equipment and old
fashioned materials. I work slowly out of necessity. I rush too much. I
sometimes think I'm blind to what really matters. I persist out of love
for it all. There's no other word for it".
The mission of Albany Center Gallery is to promote and exhibit contemporary
visual art produced by emerging and established artists living primarily
in the region and to inspire interest and provide enjoyment to an increasingly
diverse audience.
