Center Gallery presents Ed Atkeson’s FIRLEFANZ PUPPETS: An Art Show
about Puppets from Nov. 8 to Dec. 17, with receptions from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m.
on Tuesday, Nov. 8, and Friday, Dec. 2.
The opening reception with the artist on Nov. 8 will feature two short live performances: "The Frog Prince" at 7 p.m. and "The Man at the Controls" at 8 p.m. At the 1st Friday opening on Dec. 2, scenes from Ionesco’s "Rhinoceros" will be performed (the shows are not really for children).
The Firlefanz Puppets have been making theater with puppets in the Capital Region for the last seven years, with performances at the now defunct Firlefanz Gallery, The Steamer No. 10 Theater in Albany, The Arts Center of the Capital Region, and the Chapel + Cultural Center in Troy. According to the Firlefanz website, “The play’s the thing, and puppets are the best actors.”
Puppeteer ED ATKESON has been writing and rewriting scripts, casting, directing, and performing with the troupe, but his main task has been making the puppets and theaters used to perform the productions. The puppets and theaters along with stage props, noisemakers, sketches, and photographs by TIMOTHY CAHILL will be on display at the Gallery.
Admission to the exhibition and performances is free and open to the public.
Gallery hours Tuesday–Saturday Noon to 5pm or by appointment
